WASHINGTON D.C. – The Coalition for the American Dream (C4AD), which comprises more than 100 of the nation’s top businesses and trade associations representing every major sector of the economy and millions of U.S. workers, today released the following statement after a bipartisan group of members of Congress introduced the Dream and Promise Act. According to the sponsors, the bill would provide Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders and individuals with Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) with protections from deportation and an opportunity to obtain permanent legal status in the United States if they meet certain requirements.
“Dreamers are essential to our economy and communities. Businesses thrive on stability, yet Congress’s inaction has left these workers and families in limbo. Dreamers work in our organizations and are critical to the American workforce. They are doctors and nurses, first responders and EMTs, business owners and engineers, parents and family members of citizens. A permanent, bipartisan solution is long overdue—it is time to provide our communities and businesses the certainty they, and our economy, need to succeed. We applaud the sponsors and cosponsors of this important and timely legislation and will work alongside them to pass the Bipartisan Dream and Promise Act.”
Last year, the Coalition for the American Dream, released a report, “Forfeiting the Trillion-Dollar Dream,” detailing the economic and societal costs of ending the DACA program.
